There’s something undeniably fun about sequins… until you’re standing in front of the mirror wondering if you can get away with wearing them on an ordinary weekday.

This month’s Would You, Could You experiment started as a simple question: could a sparkly sequin jacket actually work for everyday wear? And if it feels like I’ve been obsessing about sequins a lot lately, you’re not wrong; this is the third post in recent weeks where they’ve made a cameo (see Just Chillin’: Easy Festive Look That Sparkles and Style Notes: Luxe Look For Less). This post is my nudge — to you and to myself — to take that “special occasion” piece off the hanger and let it shine in the everyday mix.

A sequin jacket may not seem like the most obvious grab-and-go layer, but with the right pairings it becomes surprisingly wearable, even effortlessly so. Consider this your friendly permission slip to sparkle a little more often.

I bought this sequined bomber jacket two years ago, convinced I’d have plenty of festive occasions to wear it. As it turns out, I wildly overestimated the number of dressy holiday events on my social calendar — which is how this shiny little number has been hanging in my closet all this time, waiting for its moment. Every year I’d pull it out, admire the sparkle, and then quietly put it back because it felt “too special” for the day ahead.

But if the past two sequin posts have taught me anything, it’s that I don’t actually need a party to enjoy a little shimmer.

For this look, I wanted to build a bridge between festive and functional — something that gives the jacket room to shine without veering into evening-only territory. So I paired it with my metallic striped button-down from my fall collection, a piece that already walks the line between dressy and relaxed. The subtle gleam in the shirt plays beautifully with the sequins without competing with them.

Light gray jeans finish the outfit with an easygoing base. They soften the overall vibe, keeping everything grounded and wearable, and they break up the expected “holiday palette” just enough to feel fresh. This combination ended up being exactly what I hoped for: a look that acknowledges the sparkle but doesn’t scream “special occasion only.”

Wearing this jacket out in an everyday look felt… liberating, honestly. Once I stopped waiting for the “right” moment, the whole outfit came together in a way that felt both fun and very much me. It reminded me that too many of our pieces stay unworn not because they’re impractical, but because we’ve placed them in a category that’s too narrowly defined.

It turns out this sequin bomber wasn’t the “holiday-only” diva I made it out to be. Once I gave it a chance outside its usual category, it blended into an everyday look with far less fuss than I expected.

Sequins may shine on their own, but the real magic happens when we let them show up in real life, not just on special occasions. So tell me — would you, could you — let a little sparkle tag along on an ordinary day?

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My apologies for there being no featured post from last week’s link-up. Since I was traveling this past week, I set up this post before I left and before last week’s link-up post came out. I’ll make up for it next week.

  1. Would you believe I have a sequined bomber jacket that has only been worn for the blog? I, too, thought it needed to come out only for fancy occasions. But, I’m going to follow your lead and wear it with jeans and anything else my heart desires! Thanks for the link up!

As you’ve grounded the look in a light gray, it definitely works for daytime and looks very cool! I used to wear sequins routinely as work wear. I wear them less often now but for a girls’ day out on Saturday I might reach for a sequin top.

A comment from you would brighten my day
