You know those pieces you almost talk yourself out of buying but end up wearing for years? This sequin skirt is one of mine. I happened upon it while browsing a decade ago, hesitated, didn’t buy it, changed my mind, had to order it online —there was a shipping delay— went back to the store … it’s a long story.

But I was determined to buy it, and since then, this skirt has made at least one appearance every holiday season—whether or not I remembered to get photos. Today I’m sharing a little scrapbook of its past cameos (hello, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021!) along with this year’s easy, festive styling for a look that’s perfectly chill but still has plenty of sparkle.
2015: The Debut
The very first time I featured this skirt was in Sequins: One Skirt, Three Looks at the end of December back in 2015. It’s fun to see how many different directions I took it, even then.
Look 1: Faux-Leather Jacket + Embellished Tee – A little edge to balance the sparkle — pairing the skirt with a faux-leather jacket and moto boots was my first attempt at making sequins feel more everyday than evening. Still one of my favorite “unexpected” combos.
Look 2: Cozy Knit Layers – For a softer, more bundled-up vibe, I styled the skirt with a chunky charcoal sweater layered over a long-sleeved top. The textures kept things warm and relaxed while letting the sequins play backup instead of center stage. It was this look that I wore to the two same-day parties that year.
Look 3: Lace + Paillette Cardigan – This mix of a lace top, sea-green paillette-trimmed cardigan, and glittery bronze pumps created a lovely tone-on-tone shimmer and was my true favorite of the three. It was a dressier take that felt very “holiday without trying too hard,” and unfortunately, I didn’t have the occasion to wear it.
As Time Went On
Over the next few years, I made it a point to wear the skirt at least once each holiday season—styling it in ways that felt right for whatever my mood, weather, or plans happened to be. Sometimes I dressed up, other times I kept it more casual, but I was always a little enchanted by the sparkle it brought to each look.
2016: With Ivory – I went for a softer, more elegant feel by pairing the skirt with a creamy knit top, my glittery bronze pumps, and layers of delicate jewelry. The lighter palette let the sequins really shine while still keeping the whole look relaxed and easygoing.
2017: With Gray and Red – This look was driven by the floral embellished boots. I chose the same charcoal sweater I’d paired with the skirt in 2015 and layered it over a pop of red. The result was a casual, wintry mix that proved once again how well the skirt works with laid-back pieces as well as it does with dressier ones.
2019: With Red and Olive – This look, first seen in Would You, Could You? Sequins, A Utility Jacket, And Pops Of Red was all about the accessories. The bold red boots and crossbody instantly brightened the sequin skirt, while the olive utility jacket and soft ivory top kept everything grounded and casual. It was a fun, unexpected mix that proved the skirt can handle pops of color just as well as neutrals.
2021: With Navy – For this look, I went a more polished route by pairing the skirt with a sequin embellished navy tweed blazer, a navy top, and navy suede booties. The embroidery on the jacket balances the visual interest without competing with the sparkle of the skirt. Classic, clean, and perfect for easing back into dressier holiday looks.
Still Going Strong
Ten years on, this skirt remains a small seasonal tradition of mine. For this year’s look, I kept things simple and unfussy, once again allowing the sequins to add just the right touch of festive sparkle.
2025: Tonal Shine – Seeking an understated vibe, I paired the skirt with a metallic reptile-print jacket and a simple ivory top, to which I added a brooch at the neckline. The textures play beautifully together, giving the outfit an easy, tonal shimmer without feeling overdone. A relaxed mix of pieces that still brings just the right amount of seasonal glow.
A decade later, I’m so glad I hadn’t succeeded in talking myself out of this skirt. It’s been fun revisiting my past festive looks, and even more fun finding a fresh way to let it sparkle yet again this year. Pieces like this remind me that style can evolve without losing the little traditions that make getting dressed feel special; how something as simple as a skirt can carry memories, mark time, and still surprise me with new possibilities.

I love how you let the skirt evolve with your mood every year.
Thank you. It’s a fun piece to think of new ways to style.
Wow that skirt is definitely worth its money. You have worn it so often and it looks great on you. How lovely to see how you looked before with your hair dark. I have to say I love de colour of your hair as it is now. You give me something to aspire to with my hair and going grey : )
I’ve never reqretted buying this skirt. And thank you for the compliments on my hair. They’re always nice to receive.

I’m so glad that you like it, Jennifer. Thank you!
It’s a great skirt and you’ve styled it so many ways! Thanks for the party.
Amy, thanks for joining. And this skirt is indeed a fun piece to play around with.
Love your different renditions of this sequined skirt through the years. It is amazing how a special piece can be reinvented and worth it’s weight in gold come holiday season, especially separates. I have a black tulle and lace skirt that seems impractical, but I never fail to wear it around the holiday season. lt has become a classic old friend that I am happy to rewear every Christmas season. Thanks so much for sharing, and host the link up. Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving holiday!
Thank you! I think those “impractical” pieces sometimes end up being the ones that stay with us longest. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.
Oooh yes! I love this skirt, Rena! You can never go wrong with one good holiday sparkly skirt, can you?! And this one has seriously paid for itself! I have a similar one in silver but without the sequins which I love wearing with thick knits. I must say, I especially love that look with the red and olive. Gorgeous!
Big hugs

As you can see, I’ve had a lot of fun with this skirt over the years so yes, it was truly worth the money (which wasn’t much in reality). I was surprized at how well the red and olive look turned out. I may need to try and recreate that look 🤔
That is one fabulous skirt, Rena! It’s fun to see you with dark hair and to see the evolution of it to grey. My favorite of all these iterations is the current one, but I also liked it with the ivory sweater in 2016. That’s a wonderful buy, I’d say! Thanks for the link up.

The evolution of my hair is hoot, isn’t Marsha? And I agree with your top choices. Don’t know how I’m going to top those next year.
That’s such a beautiful skirt! I love it with the silver jacket, and the red and olive look is fabulous!

Emma, thank you. Those are my favorite looks as well.
I went in search for a sequin skirt this fall and found one that I shall be sharing soon. I found different ways to wear it and really love it. I am loving your olive and red look here and will see how I can incorporate that in an outfit. Love these!
Can’t wait to see your sequin skirt post, Mireille. I have an idea for look for my black sequin skirt that I may be sharing soon as well.
If anyone has ever hesitated over buying a sequin piece for the festive season, this will convince them to go ahead. It’s great that you wear it at least once every time with a different vibe.
Gail, that is so kind of you to say. Thank you!
What a great skirt! Instant glamour (or festiviness!)
Thank you, Lydia. I do feel quite festive when ever I wear it.
