For comfort, ease of wear, and versatility, my new go-to alternative for shorts this summer is cropped linen pants. Perhaps it’s a by-product of my current coastal grandma obsession, but I’m not a bit mad about it.

My newfound favorites are those with a wide-leg silhouette. Unlike their cousin “the skinny crop”, this looser cut allows for lots of air circulation on my legs while keeping most of the jiggly bits hidden from view. And while there’s nothing wrong with jiggly bits, I prefer to keep mine out of the public domain. These cropped linen pants are a great option for when wearing a maxi skirt wouldn’t be optimal, like for taking a scenic bike ride.

I’ve found them to be so versatile that I had a hard time deciding on how to show them styled for this post. Then it occurred to me that I needn’t limit myself. No reason why I couldn’t share my top three ideas. Besides this sporty style with a denim vest (a long-ago thrift store find), a white button-down shirt, and fashion sneakers.

A couple of weekends ago, I wore them to our local farmer’s market with my americana-holiday tee and marl-knit sweater (also a thrift store find). And while I’ve not yet had a brunch occasion, my third styling idea would make use of another thrifted topper (first shared in Old Habits Die Hard) and a straw hat for protection on a sunny day.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured blogger from last week’s link-up is Gail, who shares her joie-de-vivre example for the over 50 set on her blog Is This Mutton?. Join me in wishing her well as she begins a new chapter in her life as a newly minted retiree.

Now that we’re at the official start of summer for the northern hemisphere, how are your warm-weather fashion choices shaping up? What are your go-to options? And it’s not your imagination that this post is a bit briefer than usual. The Husband and I are currently out on the road, some of the details of which I’ll be sharing in next Monday’s post. Until then, enjoy the ride.

Stay well and letโ€™s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin โ€ฆ all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Let’s hear it for ‘air circulation!’ Love these crops! All the looks are cute, but I the blue top and hat! ๐Ÿ™‚

I mean to say that I love the blue top and hat! — Wendy

  3. I just don’t wear shorts very often either. I don’t have any wide legged cropped pants like yours but love them on you. We just got back from a road trip, so appreciate being on the road!

  4. Those are so cute. Every summer I say that I’m too old and fluffy and not wearing shorts this year, but then it hits triple digits and it all goes out the window!

  5. I am with you Rena – I am all about my wide leg linen pants in place of shorts! Although, I do end up wearing my fair share of shorts. I am actively looking for more linen wide legs – they are fabulous in the heat. I am loving these looks on you!

  6. I’m a big fan of wide-leg, cropped pants in cotton or linen for summer. Down here in the South, we need that lightweight, flow-y type of of garment simply to let air circulate (it gets so dang HOT). Your striped crops are very cool. I like the different ways you styled them. Thank you for hosting the link-up.

  7. You are rockin’ the Coastal Grandma vibe, Rena! You really look fabulous in this outfit in all three iterations. I love wide legged pants, too, but I admit to wearing shorts almost every day around the house. I’ve even gotten to the point I wear them out and about if I have a good longer top on…makes no sense at all, right? The husband and I have decided to postpone any travel until this fall when it’s cooler. We are focusing on packing up and getting ready for the move (well, one of us is packing…one of us is supervising…I’ll let you figure out which one is doing what)! I can’t wait to read about your road trip as I’ll have to live vicariously through others for the time being! Thanks for the link party! Come visit on Friday if you’re around!

  8. Absolutely spot on. I live in wide leg linen pants in the Summer and they are incredibly versatile but, being vertically challenged, I haven’t done the shorter version. Yours look amazing, and this is perfect for the pair I have that have frayed at the bottom! Great inspiration Rena thanks!

  9. These pants are so good on you and yes a nice alternative to a maxi skirt! I don’t have any wide legged pants like this but I really should try find a pair one day – they exude such effortless style!

Thanks for the link up! Hope your week is off to a good start ๐Ÿ™‚

I absolutely love those pants and they are a great alternative to shorts.

  11. Oh these pants are so cute on you, Rena! I love all the ways you have styled them. I really like the wide cropped pants but I struggle with styling them. I will have to use your outfits for some new styling ideas and see what works best on my frame. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
