So it occurred to me shortly after I’d published 21 In โ21: Highlights From A Road Trip that I left out any mentioned about the road trip wardrobe capsule. However odd I found this since it had been the subject of last month’s 21 in ’21 post, it was fortuitous as I still needed a topic for today’s post.
Scout’s honor, this will be the last post devoted to that road trip. In the “packing for a road trip” post, I’d laid out my approach to deciding on what to pack. For trips longer than 3 or 4 days, I typically don’t plan specific outfits unless a special occasion outfit is required. Instead, I create a capsule that allows me opportunities to mix things up using the selected items as fitting for each day. This means that most items can be paired up with at least two others in each basic category of tops, bottoms, shoes, and toppers.
In short, my capsule for this trip worked out fairly well. As I was doing my final packing, I switched out my black denim jacket for a black utility jacket for a bit more style variety. I wore everything at least once with the exception of the dress I’m wearing in today’s photos. It never seemed the right option. The only regret on any of the items I packed was the pink and orange tropical print top that I only wore once (no OOTD photo). Turns out that it’s now quite a bit big on me and there are a few small holes in the front near the waist.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a lot of good OOTD pix but these at least show what I was wearing most days.
We encountered no surprises with the weather and my light jackets were all I needed in the evenings or on breezy afternoons. My footwear choices were spot on although somehow I lost my black sandals. I think that they got left behind at the hotel in Boise and fortunately, they were still available online so I’ve replaced them. I’d brought along a pair of boots suitable for the two expected farm tours and I’m thankful that I did. No need to ruin other shoes or to wear unsuitable footwear in rough terrain.
As for the outfit in today’s photos, the dress was the one item from my road trip capsule that I didn’t wear during the trip. This look is another example of wearing a dress/tunic with pants which is a styling combination that I adore. While in Would You, Could You? Double Belted, Double Denim I wore longer-length jeans, I’m wearing crop flares in this look so that my booties are on full display. Some might prefer to add a belt (or two) but I opted for a looser silhouette instead.

Love your cropped flares – and those snake print boots – so stylish. Your pictures look great and you’re inspiring me with the capsule travel wardrobe!

I love the tunic and pants with the snakeskin boots! You know, I’ve never worn pants with a dress or tunic. I really need to give it a go.
It’s a shame you didn’t wear this dress on your trip – it looks so nice on you! And that you lost your shoes. it’s good you could order replacement though.
You came up with great outfits for your travels I think! Thanks for the link up ๐
Hope you are having a lovely weekend ๐ We had a fun day at the playground yesterday.
I like to wear a dress over trousers. Your tunic and those boots look great on the trousers! Those boots will look great on anything!
I think you packed really well for a two week road trip! You looked fabulous in all the photos too. Whenever we go on road trips, it tends to be the middle of winter and is often to the States or Canada where it’s undoubtedly freezing so I can never pack anything other than boots, jackets and thick jeans to keep me warm! I’d love to go on holiday in September for a change!

It’s a great travel outfit. Whenever I travel, I tend to dress up more, and then I have such great locations to use as photo backgrounds, that I use the pictures as fashion posts. This week I linked up a post that is mostly about my new grandson, but I have fall fashion in it as I took fall pictures with the grandkids.
I’m loving this tunic especially with those bootie- super cute! And I won’t tire of reading your roadtrip- so much fun! I really liked all your pics for your ootd’s especially that pic with your meet-up Catherine and the other 2 ladies. Have a wonderful Sunday!
You did a great job with your road trip capsule! Love seeing your daily outfits! The tunic and booties is the perfect print mix! Those flares are so cute on you!

A great capsule Rena. I frequently over estimate how dressy a trip or a vacation will be and try too hard with outfits. Sticking to the tried and tested mixes invariably works well and is so much more comfortable.
You came up with a nice variety of outfits with what you packed: well done! The shoes is where I sometimes overpack or underpack forgetting water shoes and something than can be roughed up. Wearing a dress over leggings today! I do need to try that with pants!

Rena, I love this dress over the cropped flare jeans. What a cute look! And the pattern mix with your snakeskin boots is spot on. I try to create small capsule wardrobes for travel as well but I am still a chronic over packer! I really enjoyed seeing all of your travel outfits as well!

You have a good mix of items in your capsule, Rena! I love the featured outfit – I like the dress over crops, and those are FAB booties!
When I travel, I do capsules made of things from my giveaway pile, and I leave them behind with a note for housekeeping to keep, donate or toss whatever they don’t want. I’ve left clothes all over the world! I also take old socks/underwear (which get tossed!) but taking things I no longer want lets me pack really lightly. My husband and I took one small suitcase and a backpack each for 2 weeks in Italy, and I put my backpack into my suitcase on the way home.
Well done on your travel wardrobe capsule! Love this tunic and flare pants combo.
