Get me to an island ‘cuz I must have a tropical fever … two doses of it with this double tropical look. I realize that statement is a whole lot of mixed-up metaphors but you get the gist of what I’m trying to say, right?
Would You, Could you? is the theme for the second Saturday of the month. Such is the question one might ask of oneself when happening upon fashion inspirations in magazine articles, store displays, or social media. Or you might find inspiration in an unexpected place like a sunset, or a desert landscape, or a plate of food.ย Sometimes it might just be the heap of cast-offs in your closet.
In the case of this ensemble, I’ve been waiting for just the right time to share these tropical print crops. They were among the thrift store scores I made in two months ago and hinted at but didn’t show in Thrift Store Finds And OOTDs: February 2021. Due to COVID restrictions, I couldn’t try them on before buying but I eyeballed that they’d fit me. I was so glad to find that they did and immediately began figuring out some potential (and unexpected) tops to pair with them.
A solid color would be a great choice, of course, and I was also giving thought to my sparkly pineapple top. But then I spied a couple of tropical print tops I’d bought last summer. The look on The Husbands face when I held up the tops with the crops was one of his typical “what are you thinking” ones. What I was thinking was that I looking to create an unexpected look. Did I succeed?
I picture myself wearing these crops a lot as the weather warms up. The brand is White Stag, which is a brand carried at the other “multi-national discount store” that I rarely frequent so I’ve only just made the association. Even so, they’re quite comfortable and appear to be relatively unworn. I bought the top at a nearby Loft Factory Store, as they do carry so many cute styles. While the floral patterns aren’t exactly a match, I think that the coral color (and of course the olive tones) ties the two pieces together nicely.
If I hadn’t worn my olive utility-style jacket in last week’s Fresh Focus: Tropical Escape, I might’ve selected it for today’s look. But instead, I opted for a linen one that I’ve had for a number of years and got it at Old Navy. Finishing off the look is an adjustable necklace I got on clearance at J Jill and my jute-wedge sandals. In the future, you’ll likely be seeing me wear these crops with a denim jacket and a pair of footbed sandals.
For the month of May, I’d decided to make florals an underlying theme for my blog and Instagram posts. Pattern mixing gets quite a lot of attention in fashion magazine articles and blogs. Usually, it’s not hard to do so successfully. There is some greater degree of difficulty when it comes to the doubling of a pattern so it’s even more rewarding when it turns out well.
Let’s Wrap This Up
Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured blogger from last week is Emma, a 40+ style, beauty, travel, and lifestyle blogger at Style Splash where you’ll find her sharing her love of having fun with fashion and inspiring others to do the same. How in sync she and I are with our tropical prints.
What are your feelings about doubling up on tropical prints? Too much or just enough? Is this a look you would or could try? And lastly, where do you find your fashion inspirations?
Stay well and letโs keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin โฆ all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Oh I would for sure wear this!!! I love this print-mixing- the two pieces meld into one another and the colours are just fabulous! I need some tropical prints! You look great my friend- wishing you an amazing weekend:)
Yay, another double tropical fan. Thank you, Lucy.
As I only have one tropical print dress that I bought back in 2000 (still have it) so I don’t have anything to mix. I like yours because of the orange flowers running through both pieces-I would wear that. I am getting a tropical caftan in my next subscription box (although I would really term it a Kimono). I might play around with that one a bit.
Terri, Iโm glad that you like the look and I do hope youโll be sharing your styling of the kimono.
Rena, I absolutely love this double floral combination! These prints and colors work really well together. I have tried double florals only a few times and it can be challenging, but you nailed it! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you, Shelbee. Iโm glad that you like the look.
Love your great mix of floral prints! So chic. The utility jacket is perfect to ground the florals. Thanks for hosting the party!
Youโre welcome, Nicole, and thank you for the lovely compliment.
I think you did a fabulous job! Those two tropicals work perfect together! It’s a cheerful look!
Iโm glad that you like the look, Nancy.
I love your look, it’s like an embodiment of a summer vibe and those floral patterns are so beautiful!

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment.
Yes, it works! This outfit is happy and screams vacation. I love it! The outfit I linked up has a tropical print in it as well. But all my tropical prints are dresses or this one top, no bottoms to mix and match.

Michelle, this outfit does have a vacation vibe, doesnโt it? And Iโm so glad that you like it.
It’s amazing how well it works together because of the colors tying them together. I am not much for wearing tropical prints myself but I like them on other. I actually have seen a few prints lately that I wouldn’t mind trying. Well done!

Mireille, some tropical prints are a bit over the top, arenโt they? Like the ones in my outfit, I like ones that are a bit more subtle.
I’m not sure I could! I’m a little less scared now to mix patterns, but not adventurous enough yet.
Lauren, it never hurts to try, even if itโs only in the privacy of your own home.
This is such a fun look! The colors and prints pair so well together!

Thank you, Lovely. It was fun pushing the envelope with this look.
It’s not a combination I would have thought would go together but it actually looks fabulous! I love it! I agree that it is helped by the ‘matching; coral colour in both items. I’m definitely going to bear this in mind next time I’m looking to pattern mix! You look fantastic, Rena!

Iโm glad to hear that you like the look, Suzy. And thank you for the kind compliments.
These prints go together perfectly, in my opinion, Rena. Both have white, olive, and pink/orange – I don’t think you could have matched two prints any better! Yes, I get a few askance looks from the husband when I get adventurous with patterns too, ha ha!
Thank you so much for the link-party! Have an awesome weekend!
Sheila, I think half the fun of putting together outfits for my blog are the reactions I get from my husband, LOL.
These are two very cute tropical floral prints! I think I have more tropical floral prints than any other – they always look good ! The white jacket is a great topper too ๐
Hope you are having a good weekend ๐ Thank you for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkUp!
Away From The Blue
Thank you, Mica. You do have some very pretty tropical print skirts and dresses.
You look amazing! Loving these tropical prints – which I think I should be wearing more of since I live in the tropics! haha
