“One, two, three … I count seven unless you’ve got on more underneath” were the words that greeted me when I first presented my “Outside the Box” ensemble to The Husband. His second comment was “you’ll be turned into a meme”.
The selected theme for this edition of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration is Outside The Box which was defined as styling things not as they were intended. For example, wearing a dress as a jacket, a skirt as a dress, a scarf as a belt, a blanket scarf as a skirt, or any other non-traditional way of styling whatever piece you choose. After way overthinking how “outside the box” I could go, I decided to give an old idea of mine a new spin.
Back in October 2019, I also combined seven different leopard print garments to create a unique outfit. After all, if one is good, isn’t seven even better? Well, it certainly makes for an outside the box look.
There are a few repeat items from that other outfit. From the top, the scarf in my hair in today’s look I’d worn as a belt in the previous look. Also repeated are the cardigan, worn around my shoulders in the current outfit, and the boots. The top in today’s look I’ve had for a long time but the jacket, the belt, and the pants are all relatively more recent purchases.
Another marginally “outside the box” element of my look is the sweater draped over my shoulders. I’ve seen several articles highlighting a current trend of wearing a sweater as such over a jacket so I thought I throw it into this look as well.
This is the 11th edition of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration. The previous ones were; Life’s A Beach, Distressed, Workout Wear, Spring Pattern Mixing, White Dress, Animal Print, Family Heirloom, Garden Party, Hello, Yellow!, and most recently Pearls. Have you visited any of the other Magnificent 8 gals yet and seen their spins on the theme of Outside The Box? In case you haven’t, let me show you the way.
The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The intent of the collaboration is to show that there are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. And be sure to check out the other 7 amazing gals! We are sharing these posts on a quarterly basis … be on the lookout in April for the next post in this series.

While a head-to-toe leopard print outfit may not on its own be “outside the box”, pairing up prints in different colors isn’t very typical. Perhaps, not even recommended. Would it qualify for Richard Blackwell’s annual 10 Worst Dressed Women List? If I was a celebrity, I suppose it might. But since I’m not, I’ll keep on breaking the rules and thinking outside the box.
Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Rena, you freaking nailed this theme! What a fun combination of colorful leopard prints, too. I really like the cardigan trick. Super cute and totally cool! I have been trying lately to wear scarves in my hair like this and I think my head isn’t shaped for it! I cannot make it work. But it looks so fabulous on you. Well done, my friend!

Thank you, Shelbee. I must confess, half the fun of the outfit was anticipating my husband’s reaction.
What a great and creative look Rena!! I’ve also seen the cardigan slung diagonally so it’s under one arm which is quite interesting!!! I can’t wait to copy this look!

I think you win the theme – this is really outside the box but still so fun and fantastic! I like how you went out there with pints, colours and repurposing items. You really nailed it! You look great!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂
I’m a huge fan of animal print and love how you combined all of these into one fabulous outfit!

Ok, I have to admit… I am IMPRESSED with the amount of leopard pieces you paired together here and wow, it looks great! My fave piece is those leopard jeans with the minimal leopard pattern.

I think this outfit is so fun!! And your husband’s comments are hilarious. I don’t even own enough of one print to even attempt this, but I would love to try a similar look one day!
