Yellow is definitely having a moment or two this summer so it was a fortuitous choice as the theme for this edition of The Magnificent 8 Collaboration. Sartorially speaking, some gladly embrace this sunny and smile-inducing hue while others approach it with caution. Typically associated with optimism, enlightenment, creativity, and sunshine, there’s a dark side to yellow as well.
Yellow is the most visible color of the spectrum. Processed first by the human eye, there’s no wonder that it’s become a nearly universal choice for cautionary signs and emergency rescue vehicles. While yellow has a high light reflectance value and can act as a secondary light source, excessive use of its brighter hues can be unappealing.
In the natural world, yellow is the color of sunflowers and daffodils, canaries and bees. Cowardice, betrayal, and madness are some of its less appealing connections. Many distinctly flavored foods are used to describe shades of yellow. From the pale tones of butter to the brightness of lemon to the earthiness of mustard. A personal favorite of mine is pineapple, so my sparkling tee seemed like a great option for this post. Its previous appearances on the blog include In Real Life: Beach Town Getaway and October Reflections – 2019.
“Be a pineapple: Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside.”

But the true star of my ensemble are the pants. I’m one of those that “procede with caution” when it comes to brighter shades of yellow in my wardrobe, especially when they might be worn near my face and/or hair. Hence, some of the rationale behind my attire. Additionally, I’d been looking to break away from my denim dependence and had been searching for options in olive or mocha or dark yellow without much luck. Fortunately, I found this pair during a recent shopping adventure and an outfit was born.
My straw tote was also a recent purchase to which I added a couple of my own details. I swapped out the light-toned cross-body strap and tied a narrow black floral scarf on the handle in order to tie it in with my sandals and the black stripe of my jacket. Fun fact – yellow is the only color that results in a bad outcome when mixed with black. However, I think that the more golden shades make a fabulous pairing with black.

It is said that yellow inspires original thought, creativity, and inquisitiveness. The color of new ideas, yellow helps us find new ways of doing things and helps with clear thinking and quick decision-making but it can also be impulsive. Yellow heightens your awareness and alleviates depression, sadness, or any kind of despondency. No wonder that happiness comes in pineapples.
“A pineapple a day keeps the worries away!”

Yellow has always been one of my favorites. i have a pair of yellow shoes from the 80’s that I refuse to give up because I like the color so much. I love your pineapple tee-shirt. That is one thing I have trouble finding, graphic tee-shirts that I really love.
Rena, this outfit just makes me smile! I love your pineapple tee and I love how you tied pineapples into this post. The quotes are so much fun! You look amazing, my friend! This is a super fun and uplifting theme!

You make me really want a pineapple tee! Especially with all the pineapple quotes. Denim dependence is right though – it is so easy to just grab some jeans. Where’s the challenge in that!? Such a great outfit you put together.
