Presented for your approval, the combination of tie-dye and stripes. Have you ever seen an outfit and asked yourself “would I ever wear that?” and then thought “how could I put that look together?”  Fashion inspirations can come from expected sources like a magazine, a store display, or social media. They can also be found in unexpected places like a sunset, or desert landscape, or a plate of food.  Sometimes it might just be the heap of cast-offs in your closet.

And this month’s WYCY outfit inspiration basically came from seeing this newly thrifted tie-dyed maxi-skirt and my striped denim jacket piled together as I was rearranging my closet. The mixing patterns often works best when there are common colors. Black and white makes it even easier.

The pop of turquoise was an added bonus and made selecting jewelry a no-brainer.  In this case, I opted for layering two necklaces both of which have silver-toned and gold-toned metals.  A chunky ring and stack of bracelets round out my choices.

The “would you, could you” posit with tie-dye and stripes isn’t just theoretical. These two pieces were first paired up about a month ago when new friends hosted The Husband and me for dinner in their home. This couple lives about three blocks from us so I wore slip-on flats since we walked over and a black long-sleeve knit top for extra warmth.  Ah, memories from a time before social distancing.

I wanted to try out other options for this post so I gave my wedge sandals and a white button-down shirt tied at the waist a try. All items were shopped from my closet, given the social distancing thing and stores being closed. Which touches on the subject of why even continue to show outfit posts as if we can’t be out and about carrying on with our lives like it was 2019?

Now more than ever, we need opportunities for distraction from life under the threat of COVID-19. Fashion is a great escape and we still need to get dressed, right? Reimaging outfits from items you already have can help you switch up your style. When the time comes to leave our cocoons, you’ll be ready to emerge like a butterfly.

Be well and let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Jodie, I’ll agree that this pairing is not one of my crazier ones. I really do like how well the two pieces work with each other.

  1. I like the pieces together – they really work, and that is a beautiful skirt! I like the colours in it 🙂 I’m struggling a bit with finding motivation for getting dressed, but I’m hopeful that once we get into the isolation and working from home . teaching the kids routine I’ll be inspired again! 🙂

Hope that you had a lovely Easter 🙂

  2. Hi, Rena – I just love it when I’m putting away clothes and I see two right next to each other that happen to go together perfectly! I dislike wearing button-downs because they usually gap at the bust on me. But the way you tied this shirt looks really good. And the jewelry is the icing on the cake. And what a great point — that once you find two items that go together, you can swap in different pieces like the white shirt one time and a black top another time…not to mention the accessories. I love this together, Rena! I am a huge fan of tie dye anything. The striped denim jacket is perfect with the skirt. And the hints of turquoise are so beautiful, too. Thanks for linking up, my friend!
