Pop quiz … how well prepared are you for sudden events? Are you the type that has detailed plans worked out with provisions in place? Perhaps you take a “wait and see” approach, monitoring recommendations made by authorities? Or do you not take action until panic is setting in? Or do you fall somewhere in between?

Last Week This Week is a look back at what I actually wore last Monday thru Friday as long as it was a workday. I’ve included a brief description of each outfit and if I wore it for a specific event other than a typical workday. Without a specified dress-code in my workplace, casual Friday isn’t really an official thing but I usually adhere to it nonetheless.

Without sounding like an alarmist, how ready are you for what the fates might throw in your path? Whether or not there are advanced warnings, most events that will have a significant impact on your life can be anticipated. Plans of action can and should be developed.

Monday

Or you can leave your lot to the fates.  Speaking sartorially, that’s what happened with the outfits for this week.  I left my decision on what to wear until the morning as I was getting dressed.  The Husband typically poses the same question to me every Sunday night as if speaking my thoughts out loud.  “What are you going to wear tomorrow?”  Very often I will have rediscovered one or more items in my wardrobe over the weekend that then work their way into one or more of my work ensembles the following week.  The gray pants below fall into that category.  They were a thrift store find that were a tad short so I ripped out the hemstitching.  Besides adding a bit a length, I think the look adds interest and a little edginess to hem.

Tuesday

The weather was forecasted to be much more Spring-like this day so I even opted for sandals. I really like how nicely they pick up the colors in the kimono. Truth be told, I felt a little underdressed and a little chilled in the conference room where a meeting I attended was held.

Wednesday

I didn’t go into the office so no pictures to share.

Thursday

Nothing new here and a bit of a contrast to what I wore on Tuesday. The top might get worn again in two weeks. 🍀

Friday

I should have and could have been better prepared as I literally got dressed in the dark this morning. Overnight, we experienced our first “scheduled outage for maintenance” which was to occur between 10pm Thursday night and 6am Friday morning. Perhaps I misunderstood the message from the power company but it was a little shocking when the lights kicked off exactly at 10pm. Fortunately, we were already in bed and watching TV when darkness descending upon us. I took my shower at 5:30 the next morning by the glow of the flashlight app from my iPhone. Did my makeup mostly that way as well even though the sun had started to rise.  Same with my outfit choice. However, when I was ready to leave at 6:45am, the power was still off. According to info posted on their website, the electrical company estimated restoration of power by 8am. So I rousted The Husband out of bed to help me extricate my car from the garage and just as we walked into the garage, the lights came on. Hallelujah.

And there you have it, a look back at what I wore to work last week.  How do you decide what you will wear to work? Let me clarify … unless you’ve declared yourself to be checked out from any type of routine, anything you do during daylight hours (and sometimes nighttime ones as well) whether or not you get paid for it, I consider that to be your “work” and you should/can be dressed accordingly. And even if you are retired, in whatever manner you’ve enjoyed your day is good enough for me.

Back on the subject of preparedness, I will confess that The Husband and I did stock up on household goods, cleaning products, and non-perishable foods.  Nothing overboard, enough to sustain us if quarantined for a few weeks. We have no reason to believe that either of us or our son has come in contact with a positively diagnosed person.  But neither did many of those that are currently under quarantine.  What are your thoughts on being prepared?

  1. Another great post, Rena! I am so much of a go-with-the-flow person that I literally take things one day at a time. However, I have been a toilet paper hoarder for my entire life so when the toilet paper shortage hit, I did not have to panic. But rather I had Jeff pick up a roll or toilet paper each time he went to the store for other necessities. And I have enough to last maybe a month so we stopped adding anymore to our limited space. We have been making regular trips to the grocery and getting just what we need with our normal amount of backups in the pantry. Staying calm is so important and being kind even more so!
