Kicking off October with a floral trend rooted in the season … pumpkin spice. I don’t think any other season gets as much love as Fall. Besides boots and sweaters, the top reason Fall is my favorite is the colors. Rich and dreamy hues that echo the changing colors of leaves and the bounty of autumn vegetables found at local farmstands. Orange is not often a color of choice for most people when it comes to fashion except perhaps if you’re a sports fan. However, it’s mellower cousin pumpkin spice can add the same amount of zing but with much less bite.
Florals on dark backgrounds are a popular motif this time of year and these prints typically use gray or black. I’ve got those by the bushel so I was really happy to come across this top during a recent shopping venture. And as far as I’m concerned, it’s warmer tone would be flattering to nearly everyone.
While the top is new, the other items in this outfit are pre-loved. I bought the cardigan about 6 months ago just as the weather was getting warmer so I haven’t gotten to wear it much yet. It has made an appearance on the blog already though, in a Last Week This Week post back in March. This cardigan is one of those items that make you wonder why someone got rid of it. When I came across it at the thrift store, I initially thought that it might be from a higher-end store like Anthropology or Madewell. However, my research on the brand came up with nothing of the sort. That didn’t matter to me because I liked it anyway. Long cardis with bold stripes seem to be having a moment this season and it’s got pockets.
These skinny jeans are my absolute favorite pair right now … I wear them ALL THE TIME. Also a thrift store find, they’ve been on steady rotation for my Friday casual office OOTDs as well.
Now, these shearling boots I bought on Poshmark (that’s the link to my closet) a year ago this past June. The chains and other bobbles were added by me in a bit of a recent DIY project. The effort was a success but I’m chagrinned to admit that this was the first time I’d worn them and it’ll be the last as well. More as to why will be shared in an upcoming post.
Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up for this week. My featured blogger from the last link-up (oops, I missed a couple of weeks, didn’t I?) is Nicole from High Latitude Style. If you remember that post, you’ll understand why her fabulous sequin skirt struck a chord with me. That and Nicole has a wonderful blog full of great fashion tips that you should check out if you don’t already follow her.
As a flavoring for lattes and cheesecake, I’ll take a pass but as a hue with vibrancy and warmth, pumpkin spice is dreamy. What colors are you wearing this season?
Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link-up.

Cute combo and I think that rich red is wonderful on you.

Wow! Those boots are fantastic!
Hi Rena
aww, a shame on the boots as they look sensational! I love the chains around the ankle and the style. I love the colors of Fall, right up my alley and have always loved it as my favorite season as it is one season I am not sweating, other than menopause! The new top and striped cozy cardi look great together!
