By now, you’ve likely heard or read that “greenery” is Pantone’s color of the year for 2017. Did you jump for joy at the news or, like me, was your first reaction one of pondering and wondering if someone was playing a joke on you? Though, after giving it some thought as well as checking for greenery in my closet, I’ve come to embrace its potential.

Greenery is described by Pantone as nature’s neutral, a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew”. Given the drier climate I live in, I cherish the times of the year when the hillsides turn lushly green and the foliage is brightly hued but is it a color I want in my wardrobe?

Apparently, the answer is yes. I don’t have any solid green items but I do have many with patterns that prominently feature green and in a vast range of shades, too. When I decided to use greenery in this first coloring pairing of 2017, I had initially thought to call the post “Greenery And Gray” until I was inspired by an article in a recent issue of Family Circle to pair up my white purse with this outfit.

Articles like these don’t incite me to run out and buy the ‘next new thing’ because I probably already have something like it. What I like about them  is that they can often show me how I might wear it differently or in this case, at a different time of the year. While I’ve embraced the idea of wearing white shoes and white jeans past Labor Day, I hadn’t thought to wear my white purse other than during Spring and Summer. I was dressed and ready to go for the photo shoot except for a purse when I spied this one hanging on its hook and it seemed to beckon me. Who was I to resist?

Two weeks ago, I featured the cardigan I’m wearing in Winter White Floral so the title of the magazine spread struck a cord with me. The gray tunic I have on recently appeared in 17 Challenges for ’17 and the boots were a topic of discussion in From Combat Boot To OTK: A Perspective On Being Ageless.  If you missed those posts, just click on links and get caught up on your reading.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from last week’s post is Kallie, the creative inspiration behind The Flexman Flat. This was Kallie’s first post with the link up and what a wonderful way to meet such a fantastic person. Kallie describes herself as a strong believer in spending money on classic basics and her style approach is to then take those pieces to mix ‘n match with less expensive fun, trendy items.

As you likely know, the weather has been quite dry for about five years in several western U.S. states and in Southern California where I live, the region has especially been hit really hard by the drought.  Hearing the rain falling against my window makes me realize how prophetic and timely this color choice is.  It appears that the weather pattern is finally changing and the rains are reviving, restoring, and renewing nature after such a long dry spell.

What was your first impression on the choice of greenery as the color of the year for 2017? How are your bringing greenery into your style? Are you going “whole hog” or using a “just a touch” approach?

Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin, stumble … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link up.

Rena, this outfit is super flattering! You look amazing! I, for one, love all shades of green, so I am probably quite set with substitutes for Greenery or close enough pieces. I have lots of green in my wardrobe already but I am always willing to add more green, so this Pantone push for green makes me quite happy because I will be able to find what was once a difficult-to-find and forgotten color!

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

Shelbee, thank you for the lovely compliments. It will be nice to see more green offerings this year. I’m dying to get a pair of green shoes and a purse.

I think Greenery is a nice, fresh shade that embodies spring, although wearing it might not be to everyone’s taste. Generally, I find darker greens more flattering (such as emerald and forest green) but wearing it as part of a pattern is an easy way to work into an outfit.

Emma, I’m like you with a preference for darker greens that are more blue than yellow. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

I’m one of those that jumped for joy, Rena at the thought of “greenery”. I think green is my second favorite color (next to yellow) and I love it next to my skin!!
Needless to say, I don’t have a ton of it in my closet, since it hasn’t been easy to find in the stores lately. But I’m sure I can pull out some of my prints and scarves and used them accordingly!!

Jodie, greenery would be a great compliment to your coloring so it’s a natural (pun intended) for you to be excited about its selection as color of the year.

  4. I also love green! But I cant wear every tone of green in my face. What a fabulous purse you have there!

We are kindred spirits in our fondness for green, Nancy. Thank you for commenting and for the purse love (I fixed your typo).

How lovely to see brightness at this time of year. Looking lovely here Rena. What also caught my attention was that you get the Family Circle magazine. This used to be one of my favourites and it’s not published here in UK anymore. Have a great week x

Thank you, Laurie. Family Circle is a favorite of mine and how awful that it’s not published in the UK anymore. Can you access a digital version on-line?

  6. I love your cardigan! And the white bag looks great with the darker outfit! A wonderful way to brighten it up. You look fabulous!

Thanks for the link up & Happy Sunday!

Andrea, thank you for the lovely compliments. At first I was afraid that the white purse would look awkward but it does brighten up the look and doesn’t look out of place.

I love the cardi you have on and the floral pattern. I, like you, probably wasn’t thrilled that the color of the year was such a bright green, but I did find it in my shoes. I don’t own a color that bright and know it wouldnt look great around my face. You did a lovely job of incorporating the color with winter white. WHat a darling bag!
    Have a great week!

  8. You have styled that pretty floral cardigan beautifully, once again. I love it. I need to remember to wear mine again and try it over a neutral tunic dress. Also, the outfit from Flexman Flat is so chic!

Thanks for another great linkup and have a wonderful week ahead, Rena.

P.S. Would love for you to co-host Thursday Moda with me sometime so please let me know. 😉

  9. I am thrilled greenery is this year’s color! Green is my favorite color – specifically Kelly Green. While I do have plenty of green in my closet, I don’t think I have anything with quite this much yellow in the tone. Time to go shopping, I guess. Haha! It’s nice to see you style this pretty floral cardigan again. It looks so fresh with your tunic and over the knee boots.
