White seems to be a trending color at the moment so I decided to take my white skirt out for turn with Up Down All-Around. This beauty from J Jill has been in my closet for several years and is hardly ‘just a plain white skirt’. Besides being fully lined (the sheerness of white can be a challenge), the fabric has a tone on tone stripe and a floral topstitch pattern. I’ve always loved a midi length skirt and flare shape makes it easy to wear in warmer weather.

To be honest, I wouldn’t not normally wear this skirt to the office but in the spirit of this post’s theme, I thought I’d take a shot at how I would dress it up for work. You’ll notice as I present the other looks, each of them has a different color paired with the white skirt. I went with burgundy for the work look because I had already used blue and black for the others. Burgundy tends to be a more serious color and I hoped it would help to tone down some of the weekend look of the skirt as do the Maryjane pumps and the gold tone accessories.

Skirt – J Jill, old (similar look); Cardigan – Banana Republic Outlet, old (similar at Target); Top – Banana Republic Outlet (cute option); Shoes – Nine West, old (option); Tote – Merona (similar)

Dressing down for play (or shopping), I went with navy and denim. The stripe in my top compliments the stripe pattern in the fabric of the skirt. The espadrilles I’m wearing are probably the oldest pair of shoes in my wardrobe. The receipt in the box is dated July 31, 1998. Over the years, I’ve thought about getting rid of them but never went through with it because they fit me so well (and not many shoes like these do).

Funny little story about the next look which is the fun one. The photos for ‘play’ and ‘fun’ were taken on location in the Santa Barbara area on the day The Husband and I drove up there to attend our son’s rowing crew end-of-the-year banquet. After we had finished taking the first set of photos, I couldn’t find a place to change from the striped top into the black and white one so I did it while sitting in the front seat of the car (we were in a parking lot). The Husband was busy with something on his phone and apparently didn’t notice what I was doing because at our next stop, he asked me about my plans for changing into my next outfit. When I told him I had already done it, he was disappointed that he missed the show. There was no real show, just me squirming around a bit as I maneuvered my arms out of the striped top while the black and white one covered the action. Easy, peasy.

With this last look, I chose the shoes first and then had to figure out a top to go with them. The shoes are new and will definitely be on repeat this summer. For a little pop of color, I added turquoise which I think goes very well with black and white.

Is a white skirt fashion forward or a magnet for stains? Have you thought of how an item in your wardrobe could fit into all aspects of your life? How much of your style time is spent at work or at play or at having fun and does that reconcile with your clothing options?

I was quite amazed to realize that he had not noticed what I was doing. We were both in the front seat so it’s not like I was hidden from his view. LOL
Thanks for the love on the skirt and shoes.

I think your white skirt works wonderfully for office attire also!! But I know the feeling…when we purchase something we oftentimes have an idea of what it’ll be for—and to change the idea of that is hard!
And those espadrilles—perfect example of how every summer the style returns!!

  3. Great skirt & great outfits! White is such a versatile color – almost every color looks good with it! Too funny about your husband not noticing that you changed. I’m sure mine wouldn’t notice either if he was on his phone… ๐Ÿ˜‰
