It’s hardly true to say that my mind is actually a blank. The reality is that there are just too many thoughts rambling around in there to sort through at this moment so for now, I’ll just talk about my outfit.
I’ll start with my cargo pants since they’re one of the five pieces in this month’s Style Remix: Varsity Rules collection. I do adore them but the waist comes up a bit high on me so I might try my hand at a minor alteration to remedy that problem. Or not. Once, I tried wearing them with the waistband rolled over which worked fairly well as a temporary fix.
Let’s talk about their color which I really like but initially, had concerns about it.ย One of my criteria for a base garment like a top, pants, or a dress, is that it not be a shade that would be difficult to distinguish from my skin tone. For my complexion, light beiges and pale pinks are the key offenders in this arena. Personally, I don’t like the “naked dressing” trend and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone IRL who at first glance appeared to be so, at least partially. As a curvy woman with an ample bust, I rather not draw attention to any part of my figure in that way. That’s my preference and I support any choice you make for yourself.
Finding lighter-toned pants in the brown family that meet this criteria isn’t always so easy. Most beige/tan tones are too pale and the garments are often in a thinner material that doesn’t mask or smooth away bumps, bulges, and undergarments. I was glad that these cargos passed the “not naked” test (for pasty me, that is) as I want more variety in my now more neutral-based wardrobe besides blue, black, and gray.
My button-down striped shirt was a recent purchase and this was the first time I wore it. This is the second mixed-striped shirt I’ve acquired of late although where the other is multi-colored, this one is only blue. I also have this shirt in a black pin-stripe pattern which was included in last month’s Style Remix: Fall In Line collection.
Under that shirt is a high-neck tank white tank top. I bought a few high-neck tops this past summer to provide some added sun protection to my dรฉcolletage. This area has become very sensitive to direct sun exposure, even with a high SPF sunscreen. I get an itchy rash that takes several days to go away. This heightened sun sensitivity appears to affect the middle part of my face as well, from my nose down to my chin. Sunscreen is still effective in protecting my arms, legs, and hands so I don’t need to be completely covered but my days of basking in the sun are definitely over.
The denim jacket that I’m oh-so-gracefully whipping over my shoulders was a thrift store find made a year ago or so. It’s made by Koret, which is/was a brand I wouldn’t normally buy (too much polyester and too frumpy), but this jacket has been deemed an exception. The style of it is kind of like a cross between a traditional trucker and a blazer or perhaps more like a shrunken barn coat. Either way, it’s one of my favorites and I wear it a lot.
My white sneakers have made multiple appearances on the blog so I’ve got nothing new to say about them. However, it’s been a long time since the purse I’m wearing has appeared. Based on my Instagram feed, I see that I shared it at least twice in 2016. First in 9 Ways to Survive the Heat in Winter (and Look Good Doing It) and then in Project Sister Act: Bared Shoulder which appeared 4 months later in June.
For a long period of time, I would only occasionally include a purse in my blog outfits even though I have a lot of them. The one in today’s look was a favorite for a while after I first bought it but I haven’t worn it in a few years. I “rediscovered” it during the mold eradication cleaning I did in my closets after my recent semi-annual shoe rotation when I reorganized some of the shelves and other storage areas. Evidence of the lack of recent use was obvious when I found several of my old business cards as well as lottery tickets from 2019. I sure hope that none were big winners ๐

Great sporty and still cool look! I like cargo trousers a lot, also with heels! The cross body is great for the contrast. Thanks for hosting Rena!
You’ve got me thinking now about the colors of my “bottoms” as I also dislike the “look nude” trend. Your pants are a good color. Good casual vibes.
Those cargo pants are so cute! Love this classic look!

Yes, yes, yes to too many thoughts rattling around! I try to publish a weekly fashion post every Friday, but it can be a real challenge when there are so many other things on my mind.
I have been wearing sneakers more and more. I like how comfortable they are and how they add a casual vibe to an outfit. Your sneakers look so good with this look!
Hi Rena, Your comment about not wearing flesh-colored clothes is making me think about why I shy away from tan cargos and such. Interesting. I think they look cute, and I like the utilitarian aspect in them but find that I put them on and then take them off to wear something else. I’m trying to weed out those clothes that I out on and then end up choosing not to wear. I just think all my clothes are so cute, but there’s too much!!!
Love this classic casual look Rena! I think the cargos are a wonderful shade and nice contrast with the striped shirt. Thanks for the link up!

Hi there Rena, Thanks for hosting, it’s awesome to be part of this group weekly.
I linked up this week with = 26+27. Come and join us at SeniorSalonPitStop. You will find the linkup information under BLOGGING.
I have a hard time wearing anything pale as I tend to be so pale myself that the naked dressing trend makes me look sickly. I tend to do a brain dump when thoughts are jumbling my head to try and get them out of my head and on paper otherwise I just continue to circle around and around with them.
I was trying on some cords this weekend and just couldn’t buy them. They were a pale ivory color which just seemed to accentuate all the lumps and bumps. So, I guess I would say I tend to stay away from ivory and white bottoms as they just don’t flatter my legs.
As for thoughts…I’ve got three writing assignments all due by the end of this week. I actually had four, but one is done. So, what am I doing? Playing games on my iPad…anything but writing. The thoughts are whirling around in my head, but I’m just having a hard time concentrating on putting them in order.
Thanks for the link up!

I am loving the cut of these pants and the color is on point! I know exactly what you mean: I have had to look twice a few times to see if someone was wearing pants on IG!
