Knowing your fallback plan ahead of time is often a wise move should things go awry. In the event that one’s original arrangements do not work out or should key items become unavailable, pivoting is often a wise course of action.
Now, the title of this post might just be a clever (or not so clever) take on the recent resetting of clocks experienced this past weekend in most of the US as daylight saving time has ended for 2022. You know, as in that little mnemonic, Spring→forward, Fall→back. And well, having one already in mind for those times when you need a plan B makes such a pivot easier to achieve.
For me, the time change in the Fall seems much more abrupt than the one in Spring perhaps. This is probably because of the differences in light vs darkness occurring in the evening as opposed to the morning. When life’s activities had me out and about more throughout the day, I wasn’t thrilled to be driving home from work in the dark because sunset was magically an hour earlier than it had been the week before. Nowadays with a much slower pace and fewer demands for my time, the change this year doesn’t seem so bad.
Besides Canada, most of the other countries in the northern hemisphere that observe DST did their return to standard time at the end of October so for many of my international readers, this post may appear like old news. What can I say, it is what it is. As for a fallback plan, that’s where my look for this post tells the story.
Not literally, I have no idea what words/messages are written on my jeans unlike my DIYed ones seen in last week’s post. I had a whole different concept slated for today’s post but it didn’t feel right so I pivoted. Then scrambled to come up with Plan B. Once I’d decided on what to wear, I realized that I’d settled on my usual fallback formula. Jeans, a button-down, jacket, booties. Now, where had I seen this before?
Last week’s post, that’s where. The one with DIYed “statement” jeans. Looked good then, looks good now so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I guess. It’s a formula that has served me well for a long time but still allows for a lot of flexibility and creativity. Just wish I was motivated enough to put a creative DIY spin on more of my clothes. I’ll put it on my to-do list.

Let’s Wrap This Up
Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured post from last week’s link-up is by Nicolle over at Our Tiny Nest, who co-hosts a link-up on Wednesdays. Nicolle is a self-professed wife, mama, L&D nurse, homebody, and creator of cozy spaces.
How well are you adjusting to the time change? Do you have any tricks you use to make the transition less stressful? And what’s your fallback plan when figuring out what to wear? If you’re anything like me, you like to try new and fresh styles but sometimes you need to take it back to the basics and go with what works.
Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Like you, the time change doesn’t bother me as much. But, I’m a night owl so I am used to being in the dark! It does make me feel vaguely guilty the first few days as I am getting up so late! I don’t have any tricks to remedy the situation unless it would be to use an alarm clock, and who wants to do that! I don’t have a Plan B for clothes most days. I am an emotional dresser (just like I’m an emotional eater). I dress to fit my mood or to lighten it! Thanks for the link party!

I dread the day when we have to change the time, it’s only an hour either way but it messes up with my day and my head. Love your DIY jeans, Rena, they look great and they are one of a kind. Thank you for link-up. Anna

These are such fun jeans and I really like the statement they make paired with the classic white shirt 🙂 I’m lucky we don’t do daylight savings time in Queensland so I don’t have to worry about changing the clocks. It is a little tricky trying to remember the current time in all the other states though, for 6 months of the year they don’t line up with us, haha!
Thanks for the link up! Hope you are having a nice start to your week.
I don’t like the dark nights but it does prompt me into thinking I should now be cooking winter warmers! As far as outfits are concerned it’s basics every time for me, for comfort and assured success!
Super cute jeans, Rena! I love this outfit formula on you. It looks fabulous and allows so much creativity to shine through! As for DST, it is kicking my arse! I already wake up between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. When I woke on Sunday at 3:45 it was not abnormal. When I realized it was only 2:45, I knew I was in for a long adjustment period! Monday I was awake at 1:30 a.m. and had to force myself to say awake until 8:00 p.m. and then I still woke up at 2:30 on Tuesday morning. Menopause and changing clocks do not mix well together!

The jeans are fabulous! I like that you a classic black and button down to them. I don’t mind the extra hour for the change. It felt good to sleep in! Thanks for the link up!

I am finding I have an outfit formula as well and I am not unhappy about it. There was a time when I thought the word “formula” or “capsule” meant lack of creativity. Now I realize I was wrong! Your look is great, the fun denim adds the spark!

I love minimalism when it comes to fashion. People tend to think that’s something new but it’s been around for years. Style tends to get recycled on occasion in the industry with a new take. I love pieces that are classic without compromising style. Your statement jeans are great. Loved reading this have an awesome week.

It was cloudy here all day yesterday so it didn’t matter so much that “sunset” came earlier. But I do think I will enjoy not driving home in the dark now that I don’t go out to a job. However,I don’t like leaving home for evening events in the dark. Bottom line, I miss the extra hours of daylight in the summer whether we do DST or not.
So far the time change hasn’t been a bad thing: the boys have been falling asleep really quickly and have not had a hard time getting up. We just have to make sure to get our outside playing time earlier which is actually a good thing too.

Rena, I hate the time changes and wish they’d just pick a time, any time, and stick with it year round! Thank you for hosting one of my favorite parties! I always enjoy the links here and come back a few times to check more of them out. Perhaps one of your lovely readers/linkers will be one of the two winners of my kitchen tools giveaway!
Time changes does not impact me but for parents with babies it must be a nightmare. Also being retired means I can suit myself and rarely have to drive in the dark. x
The hour difference in either direction is exhausting and always takes me about a week to adjust. Your DIY jeans are so fun! Such a great look!

I hate it when it gets dark so early and i hate it when it’s dark in the morning. What can I day, I’m a summer person.
The clock business doesn’t bother me much, but the seasonal clothes transition drives me crazy! This year autumn has been very warm, so it’s not appropriate to be wearing thick tights or coats, but summer clothes aren’t appropriate either! And now we’re getting a lot of (welcome ) rain, which is a whole new challenge in itself!
Lovely denim outfits

Your fallback formula works every time- jeans, button up, blazer and boots. This outfit looks great.
I rather liked the hour change because I’ve been getting up earlier and earlier to walk the dog, and it was still so dark before. Now though, it feels much better (and not too chilly either!).
And I couldn’t agree more on ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ comment!
Big hugs

This is such a wonderful look on you — the long shirt + jacket + jeans and boots. It’s classic and pulled-together but also casual. Perfect balance. Thank you for sharing this post in the Talent-Sharing Tuesdays Link-Up 41.

I love those jeans! I dread putting the clocks back in October – the lack of sunlight during the winter really gets me down in the dumps sometimes. I try to get outside and make the most of it when it’s sunny, even though it’s cold.
