As a motif, tie-dye is known to have a lot of significance and associations. For some, it’ll bring up nostalgic memories of a childhood crafting project. For others, it’s a reminder of the 60s counterculture movement.
In either case, it is tie-dye that’s getting the Fresh Focus treatment for this 1st Saturday of the month post. In reality, techniques similar to tie-dye can be traced back at least 1500 years to various cultures. On the Tie Dye Your Summer website, you can find instructions for over 20 different techniques. Based on the examples, I’d say that the pattern of my dress would be called reverse tie-dye.
My cotton knit dress is a recent purchase. While its silhouette and length are similar to that of the dress I shared in Be Still My Heart, I much prefer the deep scoop neckline on this tie-dye dress over the crew neckline of the red striped dress. Additionally, I find myself preferring darker colors for dresses over lighter ones.
As you scroll through this post, you’ll notice that I’m showing three looks for this dress. I’ll get to the reason for that shortly. For this first look, I’ve paired it with the white sneakers I first shared about a month ago in my Potpourri: Winter White post. For a pop of color, I chose this lime green jacket that had been a thrift store find. I could be out and about all day in this look.
When the photos of the look shown above were first taken, I’d planned to use them in a post that would key in more on white sneakers as a fashion trend than the dress. When I realized that I still needed to figure out a focus topic for today’s post and that I had these photos on hand, I made a quick pivot. And then I determined that I could easily come up with at least two more looks for the dress.
For the second look, I’ve put my new yellow cork wedge sandals, that I shared earlier this week in Thrift Store Finds & OOTDs: March 2021, to work as the pop of color. I recently read that wedge sandals may now be out of style but I say hogwash to that. In my book, they are infinitely more flattering than platforms and so easy to wear. To complete the look, I popped on a thrifted denim jacket and a multi-strand necklace with beads in shades of blue as well as yellow. All I can say is “who’s up for getting together for brunch?”.
Bringing the rest of the color spectrum into the third look, this how I do comfort dressing. My easy to wear footbed sandals in red bring out a similar shade in the floral pattern of a cardigan that I’ve had in my closet for a number of years. A simple “Y” necklace adds a finishing touch.
One more photo to show that while the dress is described as sleeveless, I’d call it a cap sleeve which I think is more flattering. I also wanted to show that there is a decent amount of coverage at the armhole which I often find a challenge with sleeveless and tank style dresses.

I really like the versatility of your dress and all your ideas for it are so good. Funny, in the fiber community, we call it Shibori. Which, of course, is nothing more than Japanese tie dye (but probably a little harder to do). I didn’t realize you had a Poshmark closet-I’m now following you. As usual, a good post.
The style of tie-dye is a lot like Shibori and I had thought to call it that instead. I went with reverse because it seems like the dye had been removed.
Three great looks. I love th freshness of the lime. White trainers always look great with dresses. I can’t believe I used to be resistant to them. I’ve seen plenty of wedges in the new season drops- particularly espadrilles- so fortunately they’re not going away.
Yay, another vote in favor of wedge heels.
Gosh, I kept thinking that the outfit was my fave until I saw the next one and then the next one. Definitely a fabulous dress to change things up with Rena!!

I did have a lot of fun putting together these looks. Later that day in the evening, I wore the dress with a pair of gray boots and a chunky marled long cardigan so I hadn’t exhausted the list of possibilities.
All of these variations for the tie-dye dress are wonderful. My favorite is the floral jacket and red shoes. I’m very partial to red and black, is pattern mixing really appeals to me. I have a new tie-dye dress I’d love to link up to this post. But although the photos are taken, I haven’t written the post yet. So I’ll link up an older post that features another tie-dye dress of mine. And of course my current one. 😀

I really like the look with the floral cardigan, too. And I was surprised at how well it turned out.
Nice outfit.

It was fun to think up the different styling options. And you’re welcome regarding the feature. Your outfit was really great.
I really like the dress with the white sneakers and pistache colored jacket! It’s a very lovely dress!
Pistachio … I like that color description. Thanks for the compliment.
Fabulous dress, Rena! I have a really similar dress that I thrifted as well! I love all the ways you have styled it. And I say hogwash to wedges being out of style as well! I agree with you…they are infinitely more flattering and easier to walk in than platforms.

Thank you, Shelbee. And I knew that you’d be on my side regarding wedge heels.
That’s a pretty dress and I love it dressed all three ways! Fab styles!

You’re welcome and thank you for stopping to leave a comment.
That’s a really cute dress, Rena, and it works so well in all of these looks, Rena! I like to look at runway fashion online (I like Go Fug Yourself and Tom & Lorenzo), then I see what I have in my closet that kind of looks like what I see. Or not! I pretty much wear whatever feels good to me.
I agree – love wedges! I’m wearing some today, in fact! I also like platforms, and we can have both if we want, right?
Thank you for the link-up!
Thank you for those website recommendations. I’ll certainly take a look at them as I’m always looking for new inspiration sources.
So many great ways to wear this tie dyed dress, my fave is the lime green jacket with it!

I’m glad you like the looks and I’m not sure where my inspiration for the green jacket came from. All I was thinking is that I wanted to pair the dress with something other than a denim one and that’s the jacket I landed on.
Love the pop of color in the black tie dye.

I like that the dress seems to work well with lots of colors.
You wear this tie dye dress so well! I don’t have a lot of tie dye pieces but I love the ones I do have! It’s such a classic print – will never date I don’t think, it’s always trendy every few years! 🙂
Hope that you are having a nice week so far.
Yes! Tie-dye rules, don’t you think?
You look super and very stylish. I love the backdrop for your photos too. Many thanks for hosting the #linkup Jacqui x
Thank you, Jacqui.
