Last week had me mixing together various patterns within each outfit. However, a key factor in the selection of what I wore was my limited selection of shoes that fit. My right foot still has a significant amount of swelling although it’s slowly abating every day. Icing and elevation are helping. I’m happy to report that PT has transitioned from my shoulder to my foot. As a result, I’ve now got exercises to do that are focusing on the stiffness in my lower leg that occurred after being in a cast. If you not sure what I’m referring to, you can get caught up by reading Back On Two Feet: Forward Momentum.
Last Week This Week is a look back at what I actually wore last Monday thru Friday as long as it was a workday. I’ve included a brief description of each outfit and if I wore it for a specific event other than a typical workday. Without a specified dress-code in my workplace, casual Friday isn’t really an official thing but I usually adhere to it nonetheless.
My current challenge with footwear is that most of the shoes I typically wear to work have a 2″ to 3″ heel and I cannot yet manage more than about 3/4″. Additionally, they fit my feet snugly which is too tight for my right foot. I do have a few low heeled boots that might work but with our very warms temps, boots aren’t really weather compatible.
Monday
Each of the key pieces in this outfit has a different pattern which can be seen more clearly in the third photo. The patterns in my jacket and pants are subtle tone-on-tone ones that seem to compliment each other rather than compete. My shoes are a very comfortable pair of ballet type flats that have a smidgeon of a wedge heel and a wide crisscrossing elastic strap.
Tuesday
It was my black and white marl fashion sneaks to the rescue for this outfit. With my narrowish foot, lace-up shoes work well for me because I can synch them to the desired snugness. In my current situation, the laces also accommodate my temporarily widen foot. My moto-style jacket (seen many, many times) is subtle tweedy/marled knit that plays well with my floral print top.
Wednesday
What do you get when you mix plaid, polka dots, tone-on-tone, and an animal print? This four pattern mix outfit that was my favorite of the week. The jacket and crop pants have been paired together before (see this post on Instagram). Both are thrift-store finds. While my pants look like they’re a solid color, they are actually a dark gray print against a black background so I’m a head-to-toe patternpalooza.
The polka dot blouse is new and the chelsea style booties are not. A bonus with this outfit was that the boots acted like a compression wrap on my foot so they made walking a little easier for the day. This ensemble will definitely be worn again in the future.
Thursday
I don’t feel like Thursday’s outfit lives up to the potential of the previous three. First of all, I ran out of options for my pattern mix theme. Then there’s these wide-leg crops. While they are very comfortable to wear but I don’t think that the length is right for me and I haven’t taken the time to shorten them. These crops do go well with my sparkly fashion sneaks so they’ve got that going for them.
Friday
My “casual Friday” outfit last week was super cas because I took a vacation day and headed out of town. The weekend was spent with my family in our favorite local beachside town. It’s a relatively short distance from where we live so we don’t lose a lot of time on the road. As I was planning my outfits, I remembered my old white keds and wondered how well they would accommodate my right foot. They were perfect and I practically wore them all weekend. For my getaway outfit, I paired up my glittery pineapple tee with a maxi skirt and had a denim jacket on hand for when the temps cooled down in the evening.
And there you have it, a look back at what I wore to work last week. How do you decide what you will wear to work? Let me clarify … unless you’ve declared yourself to be checked out from any type of routine, anything you do during daylight hours (and sometimes nighttime ones as well) whether or not you get paid for it, I consider that to be your “work” and you should/can be dressed accordingly. And even if you are retired, in whatever manner you’ve enjoyed your day is good enough for me.
For my sign off photo, here’s the one I took as The Husband and I (with our son in the back seat and out of view) hit the freeway intent on having a relaxing and carefree weekend with our feet in the sand. Uh honey, did you remember to pack the beach towels? Oops, I guess we’ll have to make a stop along the way.
Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

I love the Friday outfit the best, just because I am not a pants girl. And do I spot a very beautiful sunset there?
I enjoyed the pattern-palooza! The booties look great with it, and I enjoyed looking for the patterns.
I wear jeans/jean shorts to work five days a week, and that’s part of the reason I do what I do.
That, and I am good at it, and enjoy my work. But I am more than willing to take a bit less money in order to wear what I like and be comfy while doing it. My days of dressing for work are over, thank my lucky stars. I spent 30 years wearing heels, suits, panty hose and bras that made me want to scream. No way, no how, no more.
Of course, jeans are appropriate for what I do now, so I guess I may still be “dressing for work”. The difference is, I like what I get to buy now and I am comfy in it.
Like the booties. Now that I work from home most days my outfits are casual not grubby!
I’m in love with your Monday pattern mix. The dark, moody, floral print pants are particularly lovely!
It’s so fun to see you and your husband happily, rolling down the road despite your lack of beach towels. I hope the get away was restful and fun. Healing well requires special attention to conducive activities!!
I love the subtle pattern mixing you used throughout your week of outfits! So I just went back to work…a few different retail jobs! It is tiring, for sure, but I do love styling people. It’s funny though that I dress minimally and pretty plain at work because I need ease of movement while on the job. So while I act like a fashionista and use all my fashionista skills, I do not look like a fashionista while on the job!
