I would love to know how or why the color mix of blue and black became a fashion faux pas.  Fortunately, most of us and the fashion world has wised up to the beauty of this combo. I mean how could the combination of essentially two neutrals be a mistake? To me, there is something very elegant and sophisticated when blue and black mingle together in an outfit.

So this leads me to the outfit you see here. It is one of my go-to sure-thing looks I wear when I want to know I look polished but in effortless so of way. The skirt was a bargain find on clearance ($12) at Ann Taylor last fall.

Unfortunately, these photos do not do the colors in the skirt justice. And let’s talk about its silhouette. At first glance you would say that it is a pencil skirt but it’s a little more unique than that. It’s narrower at the knee (so much so that I have to unzip and pull it down instead of pulling it up when I use the toilet (TMI?)) and there’s a little bit of a kick flare in the back.

The black swing jacket in this outfit is the same one I wore for the work look in Up Down All-Around Print Skirt. It is a favorite completer piece that I’ve had for a few years and I’m constantly looking for another like it. These t-strap blue suede pumps have also appeared on the blog before.

I’ve featured the combination of blue and black in other posts as well. Perhaps you remember these (and maybe you’d like to take another look).

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from last week’s Up Down All-Around themed link-up is Lisa from Peridot Skies. I love how she reimagined a cover-up as a light summer tunic to wear with shorts which was the opposite of how I took a tunic and reimagined it as a cover-up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fine, whatever! You've heard it or said it yourself countless times, usually as a dismissal or a reluctant admission of surrender that often promises retribution. Well, it's time to change that.
When you find yourself saying "fine, whatever", let go of the 'passive/aggressive' and embrace a new ideal. Be stylish, have fun, and celebrate the moment with "it's all fine, whatever tickles the fancy".
I invite you to show and share your fashion passions with the Fine-Whatever weekly link up.  For a bit of extra prompting, each week the link up features a different recurring theme.  For the third Saturday of every month, the theme is Color My World in which I will feature a color combo that is trending or that I just plain like. Adherence to the theme is optional but makes it more likely that you would be the featured contributor the following week.
Here are the easy to follow steps for joining the link up;
  1. please follow me on FacebookemailInstagram, and/or Twitter
  2. click on the blue Inlinkz button below
  3. enter the URL, select an image that shows your outfit, and add your link
    I always thought the blue/black faux pas was when your black was just faded enough to appear almost navy combined with a dark enough navy that almost appears black…then it just looked like you got dressed in the dark! But as far as blue and black go, I have been wearing that combination forever, it seems. But nowadays, I am little more particular about maintaining and protecting my blacks from fading.
    Plus haven’t men always paired black shoes with navy suits? Like forever? Silly double standards!
    I love the outfit you created. The pencil skirt is fabulous and those blue suede shoes are totally swoon-worthy! Really great look!
    I see nothing wrong with blue & black together!! It’s so nice that those rules are out the window—because it’s a great combo.
    I had to laugh at your skirt story—but for how good it looks, i’d say it’s worth it!!
      LOL, Jodie. It’s also a challenge to take long strides or walk up stairs but sometimes that the hidden price of fashion.
      I like brown and black together too, Andrea. It’s unexpected and yet not too wild.
  5. Cute outfit! I too like to break fashion rules, most recently I wore denim on denim. Unfortunately I missed the deadline for your linkup, but I would love for you to check it out!
    • I’m so glad you liked the outfit and are also a rule breaker (LOL). I’m working on this week’s post now and it should be out in a couple of hours (just a tad late).
