I’ll tell you right now that this post is not about a wonderful trip to a tropical island paradise that so many take at this time of the year. I wish I could tell you that I was getting ready for such a trip but that’s not the case either. In fact, there’s been very little time for me to get away to anywhere this summer so the reference to “tropical paradise” is just about the floral pattern in the top you see in this outfit.

I’ve shared before that I’ve been slow to embrace the cold-shoulder and off-the-shoulder trends so that have been so popular this past Spring and Summer (I’m even seeing a few sweaters with these trends for Fall). But when you find an off-the-shoulder top in a funky pattern, it’s hard to say no.

Yes, those are flamingos (and in tribute to Pinky, a moment of silence please). I purchased this top at the same time I bought the cold-shoulder one I wore in Project Sister Act: Bared Shoulder. I’ve had it a while but hadn’t worn it yet because I don’t have a strapless bra (I don’t link how they fit) and I didn’t want to wear a regular one with the straps exposed. As I was trying to figure out a solution, I remembered seeing a hack/trick for getting a strapless bra to stay put and not slip down. The hack/trick called for attaching the bra’s removable straps and wrapping them around the top of the bra for added grip. I have a number of bras with convertible straps so I applied the same principle and in an instant I had a makeshift strapless bra.

Besides a tropical print, the one other wardrobe item that signifies summer to me is white pants. Understand that I love the trend of white pants in colder weather too, but there’s something about white denim in summer that just seems so perfect. And of course, white strappy wedge sandals and a straw tote.

  1. I still haven’t picked up an off the shoulder or cold shoulder top! (Probably because I had a major wardrobe malfunction when I wore one about 25 years ago…). I really love this top! It just screams summer! Such pretty colors & such a fun print! And you paired it perfectly with the white pants!

Thanks for the link up! Have a fabulous weekend!

Isn’t it a screamer? LOL. I’ve never had a top with flamingos on it either. I’m glad you like the look. I was in part inspired by your recent pink and white post.

Thats a nice summer outfit, well not if you are living in the Netherlands then you need a raincoat, and a lovely straw tote! I do like the cold shoulder trend but haven’t bought one this season. Now the shops are full with the fall collection already. Thank you for hosting and a happy weekend!

    • Rena

Nancy, I sometimes forget that not everyone is living in the same climate that I do. In my area, we are experiencing the full force of summer so shopping for Fall seems so weird but I’m loving so many of the looks.

Absolutely love that shirt—just like Andrea said…it does scream summer!
I saw a trick from Debbie at Fashion Fairy Dust where she wears a matching bra with either these shirts or off the shoulder ones. So if the bra had bright pink straps…it would look like part of this shirt!

Jodie, I’ve done the matching bra strap trick when both are in black but otherwise my bras are usually beige. I’m glad you like the top and agree that it SCREAMS summer.

The flamingos are cool, aren’t they? You should try the cold-shoulder look. With your height, it would look great on you like it does on my friend Amy.

I also have not embraced the cold shoulder trend either, but I do wear a ton of sleeveless tops if that counts for anything! You look fabulous in your pink flamingo off the shoulder top! So cheerful and totally adorable!

We have the right to bare arms by any means we choose (in the fashion bill of rights anyway) so you do you! There are trends I won’t wear but love on others. I’m glad you like the flamingos and the look.

  6. I love love this top on you!! So pretty colorful and the cold shoulder is very attractive on you. The white pants and straw bag just so summery! I suppose we will have to use our imaginations together with the tropical paradise!

    • Rena

Thank you, Jess. I’ve found the off-the-shoulder look a challenge but this top seems to work well for me.

Fun prints are great for summer, aren’t they? Thanks for stopping and the follow.

  7. At least you look like you’re on a tropical paradise! I know what you mean though. My family went to Alaska of all places for summer – it was beautiful though, I highly recommend it. You look amazing and thank you so much for hosting this week’s link up!

    • Rena

Alaska is on my bucket list. My plan is to take a 10-day cruise right after I retire as kick-off on the life of leisure. Mind you, this won’t happen for another 5 years or so but I can dream. Thank you for the compliment and for joining the link up.

    • Rena

Thank you, I’m glad you like the look and the tropical print.

  8. Very nice post :-)You look fantastic in this outfit, I love print on your top <3 I have few that kind of tops and I really like them ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Rena

Alice, thank you. I’ve really started to take a liking to the trend. Are you planning to wear your cold-shoulder tops in cooler weather?

    • Rena

Thank you, Patti. I guess I’ve succeeded in conveying the image I wanted to portray.

  9. I also love to wear white pants in summer. The top is so pretty, I love the pink detailing and the bare shoulders are so chic

    • Rena

I’m glad that you also like wearing white pants (it’s hard to believe that some women shy away from them) and thank you for compliments.

You’re right, a tropical getaway would be great way to end the summer but all I can manage is a few days in a not too far away beach town. Thank you for commenting.
